Ushuaia by UTMB® brings together in one competition all the landscapes and geographies of the southern Andes (forests, rocky terrains, mountains, hills, glaciers, lakes, rivers and wetlands, among others), with the expertise and technology of the UTMB ® organization.
The race has a technical, non-stop format and is ruled by the principle of semi-autonomy. This means that each runner must be independent between refreshment posts.
Participants will come across great ups and downs, and run through all kinds of terrains. Because of its proximity to Antarctica, the climate in the mountains that surround Ushuaia (between 1,000 and 1,500 meters high, with a vegetation limit at around 600 meters), is very similar to the one that exists in the Alps at 2,500 or 3,000 meters high. By April, fall will have arrived in Tierra del Fuego, though runners might find themselves experiencing, during the race, the four seasons of the year in a single day.
Ushuaia by UTMB® offers 4 courses to run individually. These will have different distances and accumulated incline, so you can choose the one that best suits your profile. Nevertheless, it is essential that you have experience in trail running, be self-sufficient, carry all the obligatory equipment and have a proper training.

In order to ensure the security and good progress of the event, each participant must have at their disposal all the obligatory equipment on the list, detailed below. Each participant must present their obligatory equipment, in order to retrieve their race-bib (*), and agree to keep it with them throughout the event.
It is important to note that the material imposed by the organisers is a vital minimum which each trail-runner must adapt to their own capacities. In particular, they must not choose the lightest weight clothing possible in order to gain a few grams, but opt for clothing which really offers good protection in the mountains of Ushuaia, which therefore gives better security and a better performance.
(*) Any organization member is entitled to check at any moment that the runner has the obligatory equipment. If the runner refuses to disclose these elements or doesn’t have any part of it, he/she will be left out of the race.
All clothing must be the correct size for the competitor and it should not have been modified in any way after leaving the factory.
You will carry this equipment in a pack which must be tagged during race-bib distribution and is not interchangeable during the race.
› Smartphone with the LiveRun app installed and activated + external battery.
› Spare clothing. Temperature by night can be as cold as 0° C at altitude.
› GPS watch.
› Knife or scissors for cutting elasticated bandage.
› Emergency sewing kit.
› Sunscreen.
If you choose to take poles, it is for the duration of the race. It is forbidden to start without poles and recuperate them during the course of the race.
No poles are authorised in the drop bags.

This course is a true mountain ultra-marathon, for experienced runners. The trail offers spectacular views of the Beagle Channel, Five Brothers and La Cloche mountains, The French and Tristen passages, Bonete Hill, Cortez Mountain, Middle Hill and Esmeralda Lagoon, among other iconic points. In particular, participants will be able to visit Cerro Castor, the southernmost ski center of the planet.
Competitors will cross more than 8 mountain passages, which connect the valleys of the southern Andes. Because Argentinian Patagonia is one of the wildest and loneliest places that exist, participating in this 130km route will be like running 160km, for participants from other parts of the world.
The route will eventually reach Lake Fagnano, a huge body of water of glacial origin that spreads 110 kilometers. Ancient inhabitants of this land wisely called it “Khami”, which means “Big Water”. Later, European settlers named it after Moneñor José Fagnano, the first Salesian director in the Patagonia.
The lake will be the northernmost point of the race before runners begin their return, crossing the Andes once again, to reach the mountains that surround Ushuaia and make their way back to the city.
Start:
Saturday April 6, from Playa Larga
Finish Line:
Ushuaia city center
Additionally, finishers of the FMU distance will gain one year in the UTMB® Mont-Blanc registration process: if they would like to participate in the 2020 edition, they will double their chances in the lottery if registering for the first time; or they will be guaranteed a spot if they were unsuccessful when trying to register for the prior year’s edition.

Even though the route will be, in certain points, similar to the 130km ultra (offering the possibility of passing through emblematic sites such as Cerro Castor, The French and Tristen passages, Bonete Hill, Cortez Mountain, Middle Hill and Esmeralda Lagoon), the best part of this circuit is the impressive view of the Five Brothers Mountain that runners will encounter.
This mountain, 1,037 meters high, is located east of Ushuaia and stands as an icon of the city, with its five well-defined peaks. Escorting Mount Olivia in its reign over the elevations of the area, the “five brothers” offer an extraordinary spectacle of the capital at the End of The World.
After crossing numerous passages in the middle of the Andes, runners will return to Ushuaia, bringing with them the memory of a unique journey through this wild territory.

LCT`s main characteristic is that it offers unique views of La Cloche Mountain, which rises 1,000 meters above sea level. Together with Mount Olivia and Five Brothers Mountain, this elevation belongs to the mountainous system of “Sierra de Sorondo”. It was baptized “La Cloche” by Luis F. Martial´s expedition, due to its peculiar bell shape (“cloche”, in French).
Like the other circuits, runners will cross several mountain passages until they start their return to the city, obtaining in their descent unique views of the Beagle Channel and Ushuaia´s privileged position at the End of The World.
